![]() SHIMANO DURA ACE FC-7800 CRANKSET (Large image) The new Dura-Ace 7800 crankset / bottom bracket combo is perhaps the most strikingchange that Shimano has made to the Dura-Ace group. Like its off-road cousinXTR, the Dura-Ace uses a new system where an integrated bottom bracket spindleis permanently attached to the right crankarm. After assembling the bottom bracket(not included: please see item bb702d00), the spindle is installed and the left crankarm is secured with apinch bolt. As a result of the new design, the bottom bracket bearings can be placed outboard,82mm apart. The spider and large chainring are beefier and better engineeredthan before. Paired with the massively oversize chromoly spindle, the resultis a stiffer, stronger crankarm interface. Despite these changes, the Q-factor(distance between the pedals ) is unchanged. As you'd expect, Shimano has not neglected weight savings. Each arm uses theHollowtech II design, further saving weight over the older model Dura-Ace crank. The whole system is 40 grams lighter than the previous generation Dura-Ace crank/BBcombo.
